Reef Check's EcoDiver Program
Reef Check combines education with action to give volunteers a unique experience while taking an active role in conserving the world’s reefs.  The EcoAction program allows individuals the rare opportunity to join teams of scientists and work first-hand to combat the crises affecting our reefs today.  The world’s reefs are changing fast, and it is up to us to ensure the reefs are around for future generations.
How can you help?  Simple.  Enroll in one of Reef Check’s EcoDiver courses to help our teams monitor reefs in Thailand and worldwide.  You will get a PADI specialty course certificate as a Reef Check EcoDiver and be able to join Reef Check surveys anywhere in the world.  With teams established in more than 90 countries and territories, there are a multitude of reefs to survey at nearly every diving destination worldwide.

Reef Check EcoDiver courses at Koh Ra Ecolodge, 2009-2010 Schedule.

These courses take place at the Koh Ra Ecolodge (www.thaiecolodge.com), a nature resort set on a remote island in the Andaman Sea, 2.5 hours north of Phuket. See their website for details.

The full course is 7 days and includes full EcoDiver training and diving, training kit with underwater guide and slates, practice surveys and 2 days of additional Reef Check surveys.  This is good for people who really want to get the most experience and develop their skills in Reef Check surveys.

The shorter course including only the EcoDiver training but not the 2 extra survey days can be taken in 4 days. This is still a full EcDiver course just without the additional survey experience.
Start day is the same for 4 or 7 day course.

Reef Check EcoDiver Course
Become certified to conduct your own Reef Check surveys and take an active role in conserving your favorite coral reefs.  This course is designed to teach you everything you need to know to conduct full scale Reef Check surveys.  In this program you will learn all about the globally standardized Reef Check methodology as well as how to identify key indicator fish, invertebrates and substrates selected by Reef Check for global monitoring and conservation of coral reefs!  Sound like a lot?  It is!  But all those who have taken the course have fully enjoyed every last bit.  This course will allow you to join the Reef Check monitoring team and assist in underwater surveys around the world.

Discover Reef Check Course

Become a marine biologist for an afternoon! This half day course allows you to see firsthand how marine biologists conduct coral reef research and try your hand at some of the sampling techniques used in monitoring coral reefs. Whether you are a snorkeler or a diver, if you have ever wondered what it is that marine biologists do while underwater, this is your chance to find out!

The Discover Reef Check course is a great introduction to what you will learn if you wish to become an EcoDiver.
